Soundborn is a truly special place for us, one that has been with us from the very beginning. Our mission is to maintain, expand, and make the spaces of this remarkable studio accessible to you—so that Soundborn can once again become what it was always meant to be: a space for sound, where people can freely express themselves.
Founded in 1980 by jazz musician and producer Gerhard Wessely, Soundborn initially operated as a venue for live music, which could already be recorded from the control room at the time. In the transformed coal cellar, countless concerts by national and international artists were captured on vinyl in the following years and distributed through the in-house label Groove Records.
With its technical expansion, Soundborn gradually evolved from a live music venue into a professional recording studio. Gerhard Wessely was always committed to staying at the cutting edge of technology and adapting the studio to the needs of musicians. The services expanded to include voice productions for advertising and audiobooks, which became an important pillar of the studio.
